Celebrating Student Voice!

Mayoral Forum

Yesterday, Armstrong High School hosted the inaugural Henry L. Marsh Mayoral Forum, the only entirely student-run mayoral debate. All five candidates joined a conversation moderated by Armstrong AP Government students Renecia Allen and Zion Lundy, in front of an audience of their peers as well as elementary- and middle-school scholars from across the East End. Read all about why the students believed this was important for their fellow students.

Historic Undefeated Season

Three RPS high schools — Armstrong, Huguenot, and Thomas Jefferson — are having their best football season ever, with a combined 18-0 record by Week 8. Coaches credit the success to increased development, mentorship, and community pride. All three schools made the postseason last year, marking a new era for football in RVA. RTD checked in with each team to learn more about their success.

A Taste of Hispanic Heritage

The G.H. Reid Elementary community recently came together in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The event featured tastes and sounds of various Latin American countries — providing students and their families an opportunity to showcase their culture. WRIC was in the building and checked in with several families, along with Principal Rainey-Clayton. Take a look!
